What is a Data URI?

A string like data:image/png;base64,… that you can put straight into an image src or CSS instead of a file link.

When should I embed images as Base64?

For small icons and images in emails or JSON. Keep large images as files: Base64 adds about a third to the size.

What is Base64?

A way to write any binary data using Latin letters, digits, + and /. Used in email, JSON, data URIs and tokens.

What is URL-safe Base64?

A variant where + and / are replaced with - and _, and trailing = signs are removed, so it can be used in URLs and file names.

Is Base64 encryption?

No. It is encoding: anyone can decode it. Do not store passwords this way.
