Which encoding should I choose?
UTF-8 works almost everywhere. Windows-1251 is only for legacy software that shows garbled Cyrillic with UTF-8.
What is UTF-8 with BOM?
UTF-8 with an invisible marker at the start of the file. It helps Windows Notepad and Excel detect the encoding.
Why choose line endings?
Windows uses CRLF, Linux and macOS use LF. Some programs and scripts expect a specific one.
